All the products we have featured on this site are branded in some way or another. Whilst this may not be as important with other electronics such as MP3/MP4 players, computers will need the support services and reliability of brand.

If you did buy an unbranded netbook from China...

a) You would likely save money - Many unbranded models are built to cost often in a bid to generate sales.

b) You wouldn't know what quality the product is - would you have seen the product before buying? Would you know what the product is like? Would you be able to trust your vendor who will often be abroad?

c) If something went wrong, you'd be screwed - parts for branded models are readily available worldwide. But phoning through to Shanghai or whatever to try and find an new screen ..

d) Your money isn't as secure - often the vendor won't itself be an established chain, so you'd have to rely on third party payment systems - Don't use Western Union or other similar schemes. If possible, pay via a certified escrow service.

e) Refunds are near impossible - again, due to the remoteness of the vendors operations.
